Transition Newcastle Launch

SEE THE WORLD IN A WHOLE NEW LIGHT.....

At our Earth Hour gathering on March 28th 2009, we launched Transition Town Newcastle. We began at 5:00 pm at the Baptist Church, Lindsay Street, Hamilton (opposite Gregson Park) with a presentation about the Transition Town Initiative and a discussion about ways we can work together to make our communities more resilient.

While the presentation was happening, we ran a dramatic workshop for kids (the Earth Ticklers Workshop) based on caring for the planet. They had the chance to express their feelings, learn about the importance of looking after our world and had fun creating an improvised dramatic piece, which they performed later for Earth Hour in Gregson Park.

After the presentation we moved to Gregson Park at 7pm for a picnic before the Earth Hour celebration began at 8.30pm, when we had an hour of gentle contemplation we shared stories of our vision of a sustainable newcastle, music and performances by candlelight.
