Water Cycle

Fresh water is one of the planets most scarce resources, with wars being fought over access to water in many countries around the equator.

Australia is the driest and largest inhabited continent (Antartica is drier),yet we still grow rice and cotton, and raise dairy and beef cattle, all which take thousands of litres of water per unit to produce, while the Murray/Darling system (which is Australia's food bowl) collapses.

Groups or individuals may wish to add a comment (Just register first) about how we can conserve water eg. pay more for our potable water to encourage capturing rainwater (distributed dams); using climate sensitive plants and food; reducing reliance on water-hungry appliances.

Please supply some details of what you would like to see and how it would work.

Reed Bed Rave

I love the idea of reed beds being used to clean up water for reuse. It is important that the health department and local government become involved in the issue so informed decissions can be made in the interest of the wider community. Ignorance of the issues can no longer be considered an excuse for inaction by the regulators and hinderence is very untimely for people with a passion towards sustainability.

Reed beds may not be a total solution but need to be considered - along with composting toilets - where space allows.
